In this holiday season, I write to thank you for your strong support of our mission to improve the health of the public. Although 2017 has brought new challenges that UW Medicine must address, I believe this is the most exciting time in the history of medicine. By working together across the UW Medicine community, we are making greater strides in research, teaching and patient care than ever before.
The UW Medicine record of achievement speaks for itself, starting with our rankings: No. 2 in the world for research, top primary care medical school in the nation and best hospital in Washington state. We are successfully transforming care at our clinical practice sites and through the UW Medicine Accountable Care Network, which sees increased enrollment each year.
UW Medicine continues to attract remarkable community support, including the unprecedented gift earlier this month that established the Brotman Baty Institute for Precision Medicine and the record level of support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.
Much is changing in healthcare, but our values do not change. Our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and to treating our patients, their families and each other with respect remains at the heart of all we do.
I invite you to take a moment to celebrate the richness of our community and enjoy a quick look back at the year in this Moments of Medicine video.
My best wishes for a happy, healthy and peaceful holiday season and a bright new year.
