I write to provide further updates on UW Medicine leadership transitions with the appointment of the Chief Medical Officer, UW Medicine and Vice President for Medical Affairs, University of Washington (CMO/VPMA) and the Chief Advancement Officer, UW Medicine and Vice President for Medical Affairs (CAO/VPMA).

Dr. Anneliese Schleyer has agreed to serve as CMO/VPMA as of March 1, 2024. Anneliese has been serving in these interim roles since July 2022. The CMO/VPMA reports to the CEO/EVPMA/Dean and is an integral member of the senior management team of UW Medicine providing physician leadership for clinical practice transformation, strategic planning for clinician workforce and models of clinical care, clinical risk management activities and partners with the UW Medicine Chief Quality Officer to lead patient safety and quality improvement through the lens of equity. The CMO/VPMA provides oversight and guidance for the medical directors of UW Medicine hospitals and UW Medicine Primary Care Clinics, the Chief Digital Health Officer, the Chief Population Health Officer, and the Chief Clinical Information Officer in conjunction with the UW Medicine Chief Information Officer. The CMO/VPMA also partners with the EVD/SVPMA and President, UW Physicians to align the practice plan, clinical chairs, and medical staff leadership.

Becca Kelly has agreed to serve as CAO/VPMA as of March 15, 2024. Becca has been serving in these interim roles since July 2023. The CAO/VPMA reports to the CEO/EVPMA/Dean and is an integral member of the senior management team of UW Medicine providing strategic and operational leadership and oversight of UW Medicine’s advancement program in support of patient care, equity, research, education and well-being programs. This position also reports to the Senior Vice President for University Advancement and President, UW Foundation and is a member of the Executive Advancement leadership team of the University of Washington.
