On Nov. 16, UW Medical Center received its seventh Magnet program designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. This prestigious designation has been the gold standard for nursing excellence since it was established — with UW Medical Center being the first hospital in the world to receive Magnet certification in 1994.

UW Medical Center’s Magnet designation comes during the COVID-19 pandemic and recognizes the excellent nursing care provided to patients every day.

UW Medical Center and Harborview are two of only five hospitals in Washington state to receive this designation. With its two Magnet hospitals, UW Medicine has created a work environment that attracts and retains well-qualified nurses, supports their careers, and delivers the highest level of care to patients and their families.
