Patricia (Trish) Kritek, MD, EdM, will bring her extensive leadership experience to the Department of Medicine, having agreed to serve as the interim chair starting Jan. 1, 2025.

Kritek is a professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine and currently serves as the UW School of Medicine’s vice dean for faculty affairs, where she has championed the development of resources to help our faculty thrive. As interim chair, she will oversee the largest department in the School with more than 3,500 faculty and staff.

“I am pleased that Dr. Kritek has agreed to serve in this important leadership role,” says Tim Dellit, MD, CEO, UW Medicine, and the Paul G. Ramsey Endowed Dean of the UW School of Medicine. “In her many roles at UW Medicine, she has been an outstanding leader and dedicated advocate of our people, fostering the advancement of our patient care, equity, research, education and well-being activities.”

As part of this transition, Dellit announced that Department of Surgery Chair Douglas Wood, MD, will lead the search committee to identify potential candidates to serve as the next chair of the Department of Medicine. Dellit will also work with Kritek and her team to ensure that the Office of Faculty Affairs continues its vital role in supporting the professional development and well-being of our faculty.
