HIGHLIGHTS | Pride during a pandemic
- Pride flags fly at UW Medicine entities.
- Participate in Pride Fridays and wear your Pride colors to work.
- Sign up for the Seattle Pride virtual event: Together For Pride.
- Pride month coincides with the Black Lives Matter movement: Brush up on how to be a better ally.
Pride month is synonymous with celebrations, rainbow flags and allyship for the LGBTQ+ community. This year, in the midst of Black Lives Matter protests against police brutality and systematic and institutional racism, we are reminded of Pride’s origins: The Stonewall uprising of 1969, which spurred the gay liberation movement, and its Black leaders, like Marsha P. Johnson.
While the parades and in-person festivities have moved to virtual events this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, UW Medicine will continue to celebrate Pride.
On June 1, UW Medicine entities raised their Pride flags to kick off Pride month.
