A message from Tim Dellit

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve as the next CEO of UW Medicine, Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs, and Paul G. Ramsey Endowed Dean of the University of Washington School of Medicine.  Serving in these interim leadership roles over the past 17 months truly deepened my sense of appreciation for who we are as a community.  We are guided by our core values and play a unique role within our region and beyond. Those values of authenticity, integrity, collaboration, commitment to excellence, innovation, humility, equity, and caring are at the heart of what makes UW Medicine so special.

With the combination of our people and our values, we will write the next chapter for UW Medicine together. It will be one where we integrate our clinical, equity, research, education, and well-being activities in a way that we have not systemically done in the past.  Through this work, we will be able to advance our mission to improve the health of the public, for all people.

As we move forward together, I share with you today some of my commitments to the UW Medicine community. I commit to centering the well-being of our people and creating a community where all members feel valued, have a strong sense of belonging, and thrive.  I commit to continuing our efforts to dismantle systemic racism within our institution, while promoting more just, equitable, and healthy communities. Our patients and their families are the focus for so many of us, and it is a priority to provide high-quality, equitable care to all of them.

I am equally committed to expanding our innovative, world-leading biomedical research, the impact of which is felt by communities both local and global. We must maintain our special role across WWAMI, partnering in both education and research.  We need to harness the tremendous potential of artificial intelligence and technological advancements to accelerate scientific discovery and access to care, while easing the burden of work for our people. And I am excited to build on our collaborations with other UW schools and colleges and with external partners to advance cross-disciplinary research, interprofessional education, and health equity.

Finally, on a personal note, I commit to listening intently, to communicating with honesty and transparency, to learning with accountability, and to collaborating on meaningful change in service to all of you, our patients, and the communities we serve.

As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, we have begun to build the foundation for our future. We must continue to learn and adapt to a changing environment not only in healthcare, but also within our research and learning environments. While we have made strides, we have more work to do as we, together, envision the future and build on the tremendous potential of UW Medicine. This is our collective opportunity and responsibility.

Looking forward, I am humbled and honored to lead this amazing organization and to be part of our UW Medicine family.

Thank you for all you do to make UW Medicine and our community so special.

Sincerely,

Timothy H. Dellit, MD
