Anneliese Schleyer, MD, MHA, has been appointed as chief medical officer, UW Medicine and vice president for Medical Affairs, University of Washington. Schleyer has held these positions on an interim basis since July 2022. The announcement was made on March 7 by Tim Dellit, MD, CEO of UW Medicine.
“As interim chief medical officer, Anneliese has fostered the integration of our clinical, education and research programs,” says Dellit. “Her commitment to advancing care models of the future focused on delivering high-quality care through the lens of equity will continue to be a focus of her leadership role.”
As chief medical officer, Schleyer oversees clinical practice transformation, strategic planning for clinician workforce and models of clinical care, clinical risk management activities and partners with other senior leadership to lead equitable patient safety and quality improvement plans.
“UW Medicine is a place where clinical excellence, healthcare equity, education and research come together. During her 33-year career at UW Medicine, Schleyer has been engaged in quality improvement and patient safety. She is nationally recognized for her work in areas of thrombosis and anticoagulation safety, frontline engagement and academic promotion. Before taking the interim role, Schleyer served as the associate chief medical officer for UW Medicine and led the coordination and integration of patient safety and quality improvement activities across UW Medicine.
