March 13-17 is Patient Safety Awareness Week. This annual week-long event is intended to encourage healthcare organizations, care team members, patients and families to learn more about patient safety through education, dialogue, reflection and recognition.

Patient safety at UW Medicine

A note from the co-chairs of the UW Medicine Patient Safety & Quality Coordination Committee: Christopher Kim, MD, MBA, SFHM, associate medical director, Quality & Clinical Efficiency, UW Medical Center – Montlake, and Nick Meo, MD, associate medical director, for Quality and Patient Safety, Harborview Medical Center.

“At UW Medicine, all of us work together to provide the best care for our patients. During this week we encourage all staff to take time to reflect on the importance of patient safety and to consider how we all can contribute to improving it.

“Throughout the week, there are many events planned and led by our patient safety teams. As a member of the UW Medicine community, you have the opportunity to learn more about safety through these events. Let’s all work together to build on our culture where patient safety is at the forefront of everything we do.”
