Stuart Weinstein, MD, clinical professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and the 2020-2021 American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation president, began his new role as medical director for Spine Services in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine on March 1.

As a part of the new role, Weinstein joins the UW Spine Service Line Strategic Oversight Committee representing non-surgical spine care. He plans on coordinating physiatric spine care and developing integrated spine care pathways across the UW system that optimize the role and value of all UW spine care providers.

Weinstein has been a clinician in Seattle for over 30 years and is board certified in Sports Medicine. For the past 16 years he has been a full-time faculty member at the University of Washington, based at Harborview Medical Center. He served ten years (2009-2018) as the founding editor-in-chief of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation’s medical journal, PM&R. Weinstein holds adjunct appointments in the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, and Neurological Surgery.
