UW Medicine and Valley Medical Center have a shared mission to care for and improve the health of the communities we serve. On Tuesday, Dec. 17, Tim Dellit, MD, CEO of UW Medicine, and Brad Simmons, president, UW Medicine Hospitals & Clinics, announced via email to the UW Medicine community that moving forward, the strategic alliance agreement would not be renewed; however, the organizations will continue to collaborate in a number of ways. Read a copy of the announcement here.
The Strategic Alliance Agreement – which has been in place since 2011 – includes an unwind period of up to two years, although it is possible that the two organizations will agree to amend that timeframe. UW Medicine executive leaders will be working on next steps, and more information will be shared as they work collaboratively with Valley leadership to unwind the alliance agreement.
“UW Medicine remains committed to serving the residents of South King County,” wrote Dellit and Simmons in the email to employees. “As the only Level I Trauma Center in the region and a primary provider of tertiary and quaternary care for specialized and complex needs, UW Medicine will continue to offer comprehensive healthcare to our valued patients.”
Primary care clinics in Federal Way and Kent/Des Moines, and our urgent care clinic in Federal Way will continue to provide outpatient services to South King County patients.
The two leaders conveyed a positive outlook on expanding opportunities.
“UW Medicine is also looking forward to further expanding access and services for patients in South King County, and to working with new and existing partners,” they wrote.
