I am delighted to announce that after a national search, Brad Simmons has agreed to serve as the next president of UW Medicine Hospitals & Clinics and vice president for medical affairs at the University of Washington as of August 16, 2023.
Brad has been at University of California Davis since 2016 initially as the chief operating officer and then more recently as the chief administrator for UC Davis Medical Center (equivalent to CEO) and chief operating officer for UC Davis Health Hospital Division. In these roles, he is responsible for strategic and business goals, financial performance, quality of care and services, continuous quality improvement program, contracting, procurement, patient access/flow, capacity management, licensure and accreditation, compliance, strategic communications, customer experience and national hospital rankings. Prior to UC Davis, Brad was the chief operating officer at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City and also previously served as the senior vice president of medicine, surgical & emergency trauma services at Parkland Health and Hospital System in Dallas.
Brad is known as a kind and committed leader focused on achieving the best outcomes for patients, employees and the community. He recognizes and values the role of academic health systems in providing outstanding clinical care, scientific discovery and training the next generation of healthcare professionals. In each of his previous roles, Brad has brought creativity and innovation while building collaborative relationships across the clinical environment, with school of medicine leaders, and within the community served.
I also want to thank Cynthia Dold for her excellent leadership as interim president of UW Medicine Hospitals & Clinics and as executive sponsor for Mission Forward. Cynthia has been a highly valued senior leader within UW Medicine for the past nine years and an outstanding operational partner throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and during this past year as we emerge from the pandemic facing a changed and challenging healthcare landscape. Her unwavering commitment to our patients, our people and our community is greatly appreciated. Cynthia will continue to serve as interim president through August 15. She will then transition into the role of UW Medicine Chief Operating Officer reporting to Brad in support of our ongoing journey towards systemness as she continues to lead Mission Forward and other operational activities across our health system.
