The safety of every UW Medicine patient, visitor, staff, trainee and faculty member is our top priority. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve and new information becomes available, we have carefully considered optimal strategies to ensure the safety of our patients and workforce, while anticipating both short and long-term needs.
Effective COVID-19 prevention and control relies on a number of key interventions, implemented by many of us and adopted by all. The UW Medicine Infection Prevention team has developed the UW Medicine COVID-19 Prevention and Control Bundle to provide a framework that includes key strategies: hand hygiene, physical distancing, personal protective equipment, laboratory testing, environmental cleaning, research, education and communication. Many of the components of this bundle have been implemented already, though some will receive new focus and a few elements are new.

Although there is some overlap between our approach to general COVID-19 prevention and control and the tools we have put into place for healthcare worker safety, there are elements that have been adapted specifically to ensure healthcare worker safety. To highlight these important tools, UW Medicine has developed a COVID-19 Healthcare Worker SafetyToolkit.
