Geoffrey Baird, MD, PhD, FASCP, chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Washington School of Medicine, was selected as a “Distinguished Scientist” for the Celebration of Heros, which celebrates and honors exemplary healthcare workers, everyday-everywhere heroes, and distinguished scientists.

Not only did Baird rally his scholars to develop scientific solutions at the onset of COVID-19, but his department was also amongst the first laboratories in the United States to design and offer highly sensitive and specific PCR testing. In addition, the fundamental information garnered by these scientists was shared in real-time with pathologists and medical laboratory scientists across the United States and the world, thus greatly impacting public health.
