On June 15 at noon, each of our hospitals will hold a flag raising in honor of Juneteenth and fly the flag for a week. People are welcome to go outside to watch the flag raising.
Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19. This year, it is observed on June 20 as a federal, Washington state and UW holiday. It celebrates Black people and culture and marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
