It is our great pleasure to announce Anne Browning, PhD, as the inaugural Chief Well-Being Officer for UW Medicine effective today, August 1, 2024. We believe that the well-being of our community is essential for UW Medicine to thrive and are thrilled she has agreed to take on this important role.
Dr. Browning has been a part of the University of Washington community for more than 20 years and is a national thought leader in the fields of resilience and well-being. Since 2019, she has served as the Associate Dean for Well-Being in the School of Medicine, but her work has extended well beyond the school and has touched all of UW Medicine. This includes leading well-being efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, launching our first UW Medicine Well-Being grants, and guiding the recent UW Medicine Well-Being Survey.
Anne received her BA from Harvard University, an MA from the University of California at Berkeley, and her PhD in Educational Leadership from the University of Washington. Prior to coming to UW Medicine, she was the Director of Academic Support Programs for UW and the Founding Director of the UW Resilience Lab. She was recently the recipient of the John R. Pettit Endowed Leadership Award, was chosen to be an Atlantic Fellow — focusing on global equity in brain health — and has spoken nationally and internationally about resilience and well-being. Many of you may know Anne best from her powerful well-being messages at the start of each UW Medicine Town Hall.
As Chief Well-Being Officer, Anne will bring together a team from across UW Medicine to collaborate on efforts to prioritize the well-being of our students, trainees, staff and faculty. She will lead the development of a strategic plan to integrate well-being into all that we do. We know we will be a richer community with her as a member of our UW Medicine leadership team.
We are excited about this next chapter and our continued partnership with Anne. Please join us in welcoming her as our first Chief Well-Being Officer.
