We are pleased to report that children under 5, as young as six months, are now eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine following recent authorizations from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
This age group was the last to become eligible but may receive either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine starting this week. UW Medicine, following the latest guidance from the CDC, strongly recommends children get vaccinated to prevent serious illness due to COVID-19 and reduce community spread.
Where to get vaccinated
Children under 5 should be scheduled for a vaccination with their primary care provider. Appointment availability is more limited since this age group is not appropriate for mass vaccination clinics. However, UW Medicine is committed to vaccinating children in this age group at the locations listed below.
Please note that we will be offering the Pfizer vaccine only (not Moderna), which includes three doses. The first two doses are given three weeks apart with a third dose following at least two months later.

- Family Medicine Clinic at Harborview Medical Center
- UW Medicine Primary Care at Shoreline
- UW Medicine Primary Care at Kent-Des Moines
If your child has a regular wellness visit or clinic appointment within the next month, please plan to have your child vaccinated during that time.
If your child’s primary care provider is outside UW Medicine, we recommend that you check with them for scheduling, but we are happy to vaccinate your child if needed. If you would like to find another location for your child to be vaccinated locally, King County provides a list of available options here.
