The Zedman Awards for Video, overseen by the Society for Creative Professionals, honors creative content made by professionals in various fields. This year, the expert and award-winning judges have awarded UW Medicine with the Silver Zedman Award for the video “Turn the tide of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

As a new wave of COVID-19 cases surged in late November 2020, the UW Medicine Strategic Marketing & Communications team produced a video public service announcement in hopes of “turning the tide, by emphasizing the need to take precautions against COVID-19. Media team member Randy Carnell acted as videographer and editor for the video, which he quickly produced in just three days against a tight deadline.

This short yet impactful video places viewers in the trauma center at Harborview Medical Center, coupled with the sound of a ventilator in a COVID-19 ICU. The message emphasized the need to change the direction of the pandemic to save lives and care for our providers and community, and appeared on all of the local broadcast news stations.

As we enter 2022 with a new wave of COVID-19, the award is not only timely, but also a great reminder that there is still work to be done.
