The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute has announced funding for UW Medicine’s Comparison of Surgery and Medicine on the Impact of Diverticulitis Trial. Dr. David Flum, associate chief medical officer and director of the Surgical Outcomes Research Center, is the principal investigator.
The trial will assess the the impact on quality of life of elective colectomy as a treatment for diverticulitis versus best medical management. It will focus on both patient-reported outcomes and clinical outcomes that matter to patients with the goal of establishing an evidence-based approach to the care of millions of patients annually in the United States.
