UW Medical Center has received certification as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery. It is the first major academic center on the West Coast with this distinction.

Robot-assisted surgery allows for more versatility in movement, a 3-dimensional view and is minimally invasive.

“The robot allows us to perform complex operations such as liver surgery through small incisions, and hence, decreases the trauma to the patient leading to early recovery and return to their lives,” says Dr. James Park, UW Medicine surgical oncologist and chair of the Robotic Steering Committee.
