Following a national search, Tim Dellit, MD, has been appointed to lead UW Medicine and the University of Washington School of Medicine.

On Nov. 28, 2023, UW President Ana Mari Cauce and Provost Tricia Serio announced Dellit as the CEO of UW Medicine, the Paul G. Ramsey Endowed Dean of the UW School of Medicine and as the University’s Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs, positions he’d held on an interim basis since July 2022.

“Tim has proven himself to be a leader in the most difficult of times, including during the COVID-19 pandemic and as UW Medicine addresses the challenges caused by the changing healthcare landscape. He is an adept listener and communicator who is dedicated to serving all communities. Tim is also committed to advancing excellence and equity in education and our workforce and health care outcomes, all of which are core to UW Medicine’s mission to improve the health of all people,” says Cauce. “And even as someone who has more than two decades of service to UW Medicine, Tim still brings new perspectives and I’m so pleased that he’ll be the one leading our healthcare enterprise into a new era.”

In a letter to the UW Medicine community, Building the Future of UW Medicine Together, Dellit shares his vision for this next chapter.

“It will be one where we integrate our clinical, equity, research, education, and well-being activities in a way that we have not systematically done in the past,” he says. “Through this work, we will be able to advance our mission to improve the health of the public, for all people.”

Forward together

Guided by our core values and advancing our mission, Dellit shares his commitments as CEO:

  • Centering the well-being of our people and a community where all members feel valued, have a strong sense of belonging, and thrive.
  • Continuing efforts to dismantle systemic racism within our institution, while promoting more just, equitable, and healthy communities.
  • Providing high-quality, equitable care to our patients and their families.
  • Expanding our innovative, world-leading biomedical research.
  • Maintaining our special role across WWAMI, partnering in both education and research.
  • Harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence and technological advancements to accelerate scientific discovery and access to care.
  • Building on collaborations with other UW schools and colleges and with external partners to advance cross-disciplinary research, interprofessional education, and health equity.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to be selected to serve as CEO of UW Medicine, Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs, and the Paul G. Ramsey Endowed Dean of the UW School of Medicine. I look forward to partnering with President Cauce, Provost Serio and our UW Medicine teams in support of our outstanding clinical, research and educational activities,” says Dellit. “UW Medicine is truly special with our innovative School of Medicine across the five-state WWAMI region; our excellence in clinical care combined with world-leading research; our values and our unique role serving the most vulnerable in our communities; and most importantly our amazing faculty, staff, trainees, and students that inspire me every day as we together strive to improve the health of the public, for all people.”
