I am pleased to announce that Dr. Tim Dellit will begin a new administrative role on January 16, 2022, as Executive Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs in the University of Washington School of Medicine. He will continue to serve as Chief Medical Officer for UW Medicine and Vice President for Medical Affairs for the University of Washington. Dr. Dellit will step down from his leadership role as President of UW Physicians (UWP) when we complete a search for the next President of UWP. In the new executive vice dean role, Dr. Dellit will convene and work with the other vice deans of the medical school to enhance coordination and support of our clinical, research, and education/training activities. As a clinical, research, and learning health system, UW Medicine’s success depends on the excellence and integration of these vital activities.
Dr. Dellit began his faculty appointment in the School of Medicine in 2003 as an assistant professor in the Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine. In addition to his clinical, teaching, and scholarly work, Dr. Dellit has held multiple important administrative roles including Associate Medical Director for Harborview Medical Center (2006-2018) and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs (2014-2018) with leadership roles in antimicrobial stewardship, infection control, quality improvement, and clinical risk management. He was promoted to associate professor in 2009 and has been a professor in the Department of Medicine since 2015. Dr. Dellit has been a very effective leader as President of UWP since 2016 and added the administrative responsibilities as Chief Medical Officer of UW Medicine and Vice President for Medical Affairs, UW, in 2019. Dr. Dellit’s background expertise in infectious diseases has been extremely valuable as he has led UW Medicine in addressing the extraordinary challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years.
It has been a pleasure for me to work with Dr. Dellit, and I am confident that his leadership in this new role will further enhance the excellence and support of our clinical, research and teaching/training programs. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Dellit to this new role.
Sincerely,
Paul G. Ramsey, MD
CEO, UW Medicine
