On the November 3 ballot, King County residents will have an opportunity to weigh in on Proposition 1: Harborview Medical Center Health and Safety Improvement Bonds. If approved, the measure will support construction of a new patient bed tower on campus including an emergency/trauma center with all single-patient rooms, a new Behavioral Health Institute building providing 24/7 crisis urgent care, First Episode Psychosis Program, an evidence-based practice training center and expanded mental health services, seismic stabilization of both the center tower and Harborview Hall, with renovation of the Hall to add 150 Respite beds, as well as demolition of the East Clinic, and renovation and seismic upgrade of the Pioneer Square Clinic.
The measure requires 60% approval from voters and would cost the owner of a $600,000 house approximately $61/per year.
