Cheers to our colleagues as they start new roles at UW Medicine and as they move on to new chapters in their careers or retirement.

Here’s who is on the move:

Ian de Boer

The Kidney Research Institute (KRI) has named Ian de Boer, MD, as its new director. Dr. de Boer becomes only the second director in the KRI’s 14-year history, following the departure of founding Director Jonathan Himmelfarb, MD. De Boer has served as Associate Director of the KRI since 2016. Read more.

Carey Farquhar

The University of Washington School of Medicine and UW School of Public Health recently announced that Carey Farquhar, MD, MPH, has agreed to serve as interim chair of the Department of Global Health until a permanent chair is found. Read more.

Michael Myint

On May 16, Michael Myint, MD, will become UW Medicine’s new Chief Population Health Officer. He will also clinically practice at the Infectious Disease & Travel Medicine Clinic at Harborview and continue to teach at the UW School of Medicine as a clinical associate professor of Medicine. Marion Pepper

Marion Pepper is the new permanent chair in the Department of Immunology, starting May 1, 2022. She’s been the interim chair since September 2021.

Julie Reid

Julie Reid is the new vice dean for administration and finance in the UW School of Medicine, starting May 1. Reid has worked at UW Medicine for over 25 years and has been interim vice dean for the past six months.
