The John R. Pettit Endowed Leadership Award, established in late 2018, has been awarded to its first recipient: Marcia Rhodes, director of health sciences and UW Medicine risk management and manager of the Coordinated Quality Improvement Program Plan. The award, named after John Pettit, UW Medicine’s former associate vice president for business and legal affairs, recognizes administrators who, like Rhodes, exemplify leadership, integrity and positivity. Rhodes, who describes her job as providing a customer service to caregivers and colleagues, patients and families, was delighted to receive the award. “No one wins in litigation, regardless of the financial outcome,” says Ms. Rhodes. “I’m proud to work at UW Medicine, where we take a different tack — we work together to learn from our mistakes. It’s a better outcome for our patients and for all of us, too.” The next round of nominations for the annual Pettit Award, which rewards outstanding administrators, will open in winter 2020.
