Lawrence Corey, MD, FIDSA, professor of Medicine, Laboratory Medicine, Allergy and Infectious Diseases and adjunct professor of Microbiology and Pediatrics in the UW School of Medicine, is the recipient of Infectious Diseases Society of America’s (IDSA) 2022 Alexander Fleming Award for Lifetime Achievement. This award recognizes a career that reflects major contributions to the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge about infectious diseases.
Corey’s groundbreaking work in virology, immunology and vaccine development includes leading work to develop safe and effective antiviral therapies for herpes, HIV, hepatitis and infections in immunocompromised cancer patients. Most recently, he helped speed the development of COVID-19 vaccines.
