Highlights | Earthquake response practice

Get ready to drop, cover and hold on in the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 10:17 a.m.

Your participation helps our community practice and improve preparedness. Read on to learn how to participate and to find the top resources from the UW Medicine Emergency Preparedness team.

How to participate

When the drill starts, you will see a pop-up message on UW Medicine computers, and if you are in our hospitals, you will hear an overhead page.

  • Make sure you know how to drop, cover and hold on.
  • If you are unable to participate physically, please assess your environment to determine how you would proceed in an actual earthquake.
  • If you are with a patient, you can discuss with them what to do in the event of an earthquake.
  • If you are working at a site without overhead paging or at home, set an alarm for 10:17 a.m. and practice drop, cover and hold on.

Where to find resources

Please look for emails from your leadership teams for specific hospital and clinic earthquake response procedures.
