Phil Green, a former Husky football player, was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in August 2018. Since his diagnosis, he has been involved in various activities and organizations to raise awareness and make a difference in the fight to end ALS.
He is also hopeful that the new Center for Translational Muscle Research at UW Medicine will discover new treatments. The center brings researchers, clinicians and patients together to investigate a wide range of debilitating and progressive muscle disorders, including ALS. Michael Regnier, UW professor of bioengineering, is leading the center.
Green and Regnier talk about ALS and the goals of the center in this UW Medicine Newsroom video.
