With more than 1,300 participants in the 2019 Puget Sound Heart and Stroke Walk, UW Medicine was named the No. 1 Heart Walk fundraising company in Washington state. UW Medicine was also the winner of the Hospital Cup for being the top fundraising hospital system in Seattle and Tacoma.
UW Medicine teams raised more than $138K to support lifesaving cardiovascular research and community education.
Lisa Brandenburg, UW Medicine chief health system officer, chaired this year’s event. In the spirit of healthy heart activity, UW Medicine teams along with other Heart Walk Heroes walked/ran either a 5k or 1-mile survivor route.
The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association's premier event for raising funds to save lives from heart disease and stroke, the No. 1 and No. 5 killers in the United States. It was held on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019.
