A full house at UW Medical Center – Montlake is 529 inpatients and at UW Medical Center – Northwest it’s 281 inpatients.
That means that this year, Karen Neuhard-Forsythe, the Art Program manager for UW Medical Center, and volunteers will make and deliver 810 Valentine cards to patients at both UW Medical Center campuses, including babies in the NICU.
“It’s a well-loved tradition, team booster and morale booster,” says event founder Neuhard-Forsythe.
UW and UW Medicine employees show up from all departments and campuses to create cards and get crafty with their coworkers in the hopes of making a patient’s day a little brighter.
Greta Hewitt, from interpreter services, is trying to make 130 cards this year (last year she made 82).
“It’s really neat to help patients in this way,” says Hewitt. “Last year, a patient that I worked with had one of the cards that I created on his lunch tray.”
Each card is handmade and hand-delivered to every patient that is spending their Valentine’s Day at UW Medical Center’s campuses. Delivering a little love (and lunch) one tray at a time.
