Harborview Medical Center and Safe Kids Seattle South King celebrated International Walk to School Day on October 2 by organizing a walk to Washington Elementary School in Auburn. Students, parents and school staff were joined by Auburn city leaders, Valley Regional Fire Authority and Kent Police.
The goals of the event are to increase pedestrian safety, prevent potential injuries from car versus pedestrian incidents, promote healthy behavior and have fun. Students received a “swag bag” with pedestrian safety tips, a LED light to attach to their backpack or clothing, a reflective bracelet, Clifford Takes A Walk (Scholastic) book, and stickers from Safe Kids and Valley Regional Fire Authority.
Safe Kids Seattle is led by Harborview Medical Center, which provides dedicated and caring staff, operational support and other resources to keep kids safe. Based on the needs of the community, this coalition implements evidence-based programs, such as car-seat checkups, safety workshops and sports clinics, that help parents and caregivers prevent childhood injuries.
