Franck Kalume, PhD, was included in Cell Press’ list of 1,000 inspiring Black scientists. Kalume is a principal investigator at Seattle Children’s Research Institute’s Center for Integrative Brain Research (CIBR) and an associate professor in the Departments of Neurological Surgery, Pharmacology and Global Health.

He studies epilepsy in children, and entered his profession after the loss of a young family member to a seizure disorder. Kalume was mentored by William Catterall, PhD, at the UW School of Medicine Department of Pharmacology.
