Unequal Treatment in Cardiovascular Care: Evidence for Racial Bias and the Way Forward

October 11, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

The UW School of Medicine Department of Medicine is partnering with the Institute for Common Power to sponsor a lecture by Quinn Capers, MD, Rody P. Cox professor of Internal Medicine (Cardiology) and associate dean of Faculty Diversity at the University of Texas Southwestern School of Medicine and vice chair, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern.

Capers will review current evidence and studies from the recent past detailing Black-White disparities in cardiac care, and strategies to reduce or eliminate racial disparities in care.

A Q&A with Department Chair Barbara Jung, MD, and Common Power Director Terry Scott, PhD, will follow with a discussion on how we engage in equity, diversity and inclusion goals and objectives, increase engagement and move initiatives forward.
