Harborview Ethics Forum: Ethics of Caring for Patients Who are Incarcerated

Join Lara Strick, MD, MSc, clinical associate professor at UW School of Medicine and corrections program director at Mountain West AIDS Education & Training Center (MWAETC) for a lecture on understanding the importance of confidentiality for patients who are incarcerated, clarifying the role of the clinician when caring for patients who are incarcerated and knowing when it is appropriate to advocate for a patient who is incarcerated.

Strick was the statewide Infectious Disease Physician and Chair of Infection Prevention for the Washington State Department of Corrections for more than 15 years. While working in the Department of Corrections she took medical students and residents with her to see patients in the prison setting. She continues to give tours of the prison environment and lecture about correctional medicine. She is also a UW School of Medicine Clinical Associate Professor and works at the Madison Clinic at Harborview where the majority of patients have previously been incarcerated. Lastly, Strick is the corrections program director at the Mountain West AIDS Education & Training Center (MWAETC) and travels throughout the Mountain West region to educate correctional and community providers about best practices.
