Epidemiology Update:
- UW Medicine: 154 cases diagnosed since UW Virology opened for testing on March 1, 2020.
- Washington State:
- We have had 904 confirmed cases and 48 deaths.
- On March 16, 2020, Gov. Jay Inslee announced an emergency proclamation that mandates the immediate two-week closure of all restaurants, bars, and entertainment and recreational facilities, as well as additional limits on large gatherings (≥ 50 people). The new orders will be in place through March 31.
- United States: 3,813 COVID-19 cases and 69 deaths in the United States across 49 states.The largest outbreaks are reported in New York, Washington and California, in addition to several other states topping 100 cumulative cases.
- Europe: COVID-19 outbreaks continue to grow. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) reported 51,771 cases and 6,507 deaths in the European Union and the United Kingdom. As of March 16, the Italian Ministry of Health reported 24,747 total cases and 368 new deaths, bringing the total deaths there to 1,809. Spain, France and Germany are all seeing increases in case numbers.
- Asia: South Korea reported less than 100 new cases for two days in a row, continuing a decline there. In Japan, the Ministry of Health reported only 13 newly confirmed cases and four deaths. Malaysia reported 190 new COVID-19 cases in the country, many of which were tied to a mass gathering attended by roughly 16,000 people in early March.
- Worldwide: Approximately 169,387 cases and 6,513 deaths.
