By no later than Monday, March 23, we will be asking all UW Medicine team members physically coming to work to self-assess and report that they are not exhibiting symptoms before they start their workday. Those working in inpatient units or in a clinic will be asked to sign into a notebook located at their front desk stating that they have self-tested and are able to work. Physicians/residents and others who visit multiple clinical sites should sign in only at their first clinical site.  All other staff will similarly sign into a notebook located at their home station. Employees only have to attest once a day that they do not have any symptoms.

As a reminder, the symptoms you should be looking for are:

  • Fever
  • New cough that is not attributable to another medical condition
  • New muscle aches (myalgias) not attributable to another medical condition or another specific activity (e.g. due to physical exercise)
  • Throat pain (pharyngitis) not attributable to another medical condition
  • New shortness of breath (dyspnea) not attributable to another condition

Ultimately, we are asking that if you have any of these symptoms, please contact your supervisor and make appropriate arrangements.

Please remember that these new behaviors are designed for your health and safety, as well as our ability to serve patients and the community – we’re all in this together.

Sincerely,

Lisa Brandenburg
