All UW Medicine employees can get their flu shot on a walk-in basis and at no cost through our hospital-based Employee Health clinics. Flu vaccinations are offered in clinics and on many units during our employee campaign, which continues through Nov. 3, 2023.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends routine annual influenza vaccination for all people 6 months and older who do not have contraindications. This year, we will be offering both a quadrivalent vaccine and the flu vaccine for people ages 65 and older. You can learn more about these vaccines and CDC recommendations at seasonal flu.

UW Medicine Influenza Prevention Program

The flu vaccine is the best way to reduce your risk from seasonal flu and potentially serious complications of infection. You can find the locations and hours for the Harborview and UW Medical Center clinics on our Employee Health website (AMC login required) or by contacting us at emhealth@uw.edu. For other UW Medicine clinic locations, please check with your manager or your unit’s flu vaccination champion.

The employee campaign is a fast and convenient way to complete the UW Medicine flu vaccine requirement, which applies to healthcare workers, staff, volunteers and students in our hospitals and clinics. As in past years, there are these options for compliance:

  • Get vaccinated at an Employee Health clinic.
  • Submit the attestation/declination form if you receive your flu shot in the community or if you decide not to be vaccinated this year.
  • Please contact your home employee health department if you have questions about a medical exemption.

Note: Employees in non-clinical roles in the School of Medicine are welcome to receive flu shots at the hospital clinics. Check with your departments for specific vaccination requirements.

The Whole U

University of Washington faculty, staff and students can sign up for appointments at flu clinics on campus through the Seattle Visiting Nurse Association. To schedule an appointment and for insurance information, visit Sign up for your flu shot!

With the start of flu season approaching, we encourage you to get vaccinated as soon as possible and well before the Nov. 3 deadline for compliance.
