This July the Special Olympics USA (SOUSA) Games will be held at the University of Washington, and the organizers are inviting our staff, faculty and students to volunteer for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The goal is to recruit 10,000 volunteers for the week of June 29 – July 7, 2018 for various positions ranging from medical staff, sports competition staff, special event assistance, emergency management, operations and media relations, among others.
The UW campus will be the site for the opening ceremony, athletic competitions, presentations, entertainment and more. UW residence halls will house thousands of athletes and coaches during the games. Other local venues include Seattle Center, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, King County Aquatic Center, Willows Run Golf Club, Celebration Park and Kenmore Lanes.
All volunteers must receive management approval for time off and must take vacation time for any volunteer hours or days. Physician volunteers — as is the case with all medical activities carried out outside of UW Medicine — need to get approval from their chairs, medical directors or sites of practice committee.
Volunteer registration will remain open (pending volunteer numbers) until April 15, 2018. Sign up today!
