Finding affordable child care has been a major challenge during the pandemic. To help employees access emergency backup child care, UW Medicine partnered with UW WorkLife to reimburse employees for out-of-network backup care.

From April 1 to June 30, UW Medicine faculty, staff and trainees will have the option to secure child care from within their personal network (a neighbor, friend or babysitter) and receive reimbursement of $100 per day. Each use of reimbursable care will count toward the five-use annual limit of backup care through Bright Horizons.  This benefit also applies to backup out-of-network elder care.

Benefit only available April 1 – June 30. Apply now!

To access this benefit, employees must have an account on Bright Horizons.

Go to the Bright Horizons backup care webpage and select “Request Reimbursement” during the backup care reservation process and elect to use out-of-network care. Use this step-by-step guide for help submitting an out-of-network care reservation request.

After June 30, UW WorkLife will evaluate the benefit to determine if it should be continued. To add your thoughts to the decision-making process, please provide your feedback on the Bright Horizons backup care out-of-network pilot feedback survey.
