Bernadette Williams-York, PT, DSc, GCS, will serve as the chief diversity officer in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. In this role she will provide leadership and guidance for the department’s initiatives to improve diversity, equity and inclusion. This work will interface with the ongoing work of the Rehabilitation Equity Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) Council and support all divisions and programs in the department. This work also will coordinate with the ongoing initiatives of the UW Medicine Office of Healthcare Equity.

Williams-York will continue to serve as program director of the Division of Physical Therapy and associate chair in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. Her scholarly activities include work to enhance cultural competency in physical therapy curriculums, the recruitment and retention of underrepresented minority students in doctor of physical therapy (DPT) programs, and improving adherence to an exercise program in older adults.
